Quick Update

I am exhausted so this will be quick.

My Mom's heart surgery is over and it was successful! Quite an ordeal. It lasted 5 and a half hours, much longer than I had been told yesterday. She had not woken up when I left and they plan to let her sleep until tomorrow morning.

Emily had a super day from what I can tell. She was in a great mood when I got home and we are playing the Wii right now.

I am EXHAUSTED so that's it for today, I am going to go sleep for hours, the past two days have been so stressful. I can now sleep knowing my two patients are resting well.

Chris,
I am so grateful that you mom got through the surgery successfully. The very best part of my day was running into Tracy and Emily...Emily, it was so good to see you and your mom. I hope you had a good rest of the day and fun playing Wii with your dad. Have a wonderful weekend.

Dear Pepper Family,

What a strong and beautiful family you are! I recieved your blog contact from Jane Matsumoto whose son is in pre-school with my daughter Ashley. So much of Emily's story resonates for us because Ashley (age 4) is 18 months into her treatment for ALL. The fear, fatigue, small victoties, good days and bad, complications and daily strain--all are so familiar. Packard has great resources, and it sounds like you have a wonderful support network of family and friends, but I'd like to offer to help in any way--to answer questions if we can, to lend an empathetic ear, to let you know there are fellow journiers on this path you trod. Please don't consider us complete strangers!
We send our prayers and well-wishes on your behalf,
The Barth Family (Tia, Evan, Ashley, and Ryan)
